Feast Foods

On important days in the Canadian calendar there are often feasts to be enjoyed. Find out what you can expect to find on feast days...

Thanksgiving takes place on the second Monday of October in Canada, about a month before the United States. Canadians eat turkey, often served with sweet potatoes, squash, vegetables, corn, followed by pumpkin pie or mincemeat pie.

Christmas is another big celebration for Canadian families where, traditionally, turkey is served with all the trimmings including stuffing, potatoes, gravy and vegetables. Gingerbread men and houses and shortbread are also made and eaten during this festive period.

In Quebec, Christmas dinner may be slightly different with a version of tourtière (meat pie) followed by bûche de Noël (yule log).
