English-language Cinema in Montreal
Information on how to find full listings of what's showing at the movies today in Montreal, and where to find your nearest cinema with English-language movies…
There are many cinemas in Montreal, from small independent movie theatres to large commercial multiplex cinemas with the latest viewing technology. Most of the larger cinemas on the Island of Montreal, and in the West Island show films in English as well as the French versions. However, some of the cinemas in Laval and most on the North Shore of the region (Saint-Eustache, Terrebonne) only show movies in French.
Canada, and Québec in particular, has its own cinema industry and many of the smaller cinemas screen independent movies produced in Canada. For mainstream and Hollywood blockbuster movies, there is plenty of choice. Films are generally released in Montreal at around the same time as they are in the US.
On the Cinema Montreal website, it is possible to search by cinema or by film, find out screening times, watch previews of available films, and read the film's reviews. If the movie is screened in French then it will clearly say so next to the title, otherwise the original version will be shown. This may be shown as v.f., or en fr (French version), or en ang. (in English).
A film's original language and other details can be checked with the Internet Movie Database, a complete film resource with information on the director, actors, reviews and awards.
