Gas or oil is used to heat homes in Canada. Natural gas is also used to power stoves and ovens, hot water heaters and indoor fireplaces. Natural gas supply is readily available in all provinces/territories except Yukon, NW Territories, Nunavut, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, where natural gas is not currently available by pipeline.

Oil service companies will provide oil for homes heated by an oil furnace. It is easiest to ask the previous owner or landlord which company they used. If this is not possible, refer to the Yellow Pages under Oils-Fuels for service company contact details. There are generally multiple suppliers in one area.
